When you sign on to an agency, they expect full participation from the aning, if you are called that morning to be in the city, or hollywood (for us) in an hour, you need to be there in an hour. I heard from someone through a submission to a bigger agency, that's how we got started. They did NOT want follow up calls, if they called you, they were interested. Many had a recording that gave instructions for submissions. I got a list of the agencies in town, then had to call each one to see if they had a children's division, and if they did commercials. There are too many disreputable people in the business-and nowadays you really want the people with photos of your child to be as professional as possible. My one concrete advice is to only approach a major modeling agency in the city. So, my advice is to consider your child and how she might handle the attention-and to honestly think about how you might handle it, too. I've met parents who are the worse stereotype of stage parents, and others who are as mellow as can be. I've seen 5 year old models who act like mega-star divas (even though they're just doing a shoot for a page in a textbook) and I've seen very successful kid models shooting a cover for a national magazine who seem totally down to earth and unfazed. As with most things, I think the impact on the child depends on temperament and how the parents deal with the situation.

However, I have observed many child models (and their parents) on photo shoots. Sadly, no one in my family has been genetically blessed to the extent that we've had the opportunity to pimp ourselves or each other.
